Prime Minister Andrew Holness is to meet in the coming days with United States Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo in Washington DC.

Holness and Pompeo are expected to discuss a range of issues including national security and trade.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Holness participated in the United Nation’s General Assembly in New York.

The Prime Minister made the disclosure yesterday when he spoke on Irie Jam Radio in the US tri-state area.

Prime Minister Holness says he’s encouraged by the response of the international community to his and French President, Emmanuel Macron’s efforts at the UN this week to invigorate the global climate change fight.

In the meantime, Prime Minister Holness is again rejecting as false suggestions that the government is facilitating mining in the cockpit country.

He says his administration has taken unprecedented action to protect the cockpit country.

Prime Minister Holness says it’s important to dispel false narratives about the government’s approach to the cockpit country.

Mr. Holness told the US radio station there are some areas in the Cockpit Country outside the demarcated area which some stakeholders feel no mining should be allowed.

He says the government has commissioned a study and is exploring options that could prevent mining in those areas.
