Attorney-at-law Peter Champagnie is proposing that experienced lawyers volunteer their time to sit on the Night Court.

Speaking on Nationwide This Morning, Mr. Champagnie said the measure can help to ease the backlog in the court system.

The Night Court typically sits between 5 and 9pm on weekdays.

However, according to Mr. Champagnie, only one Magistrate hears cases during the night session, even though eight courtrooms are available for such sittings.

The attorney says there would be several advantages to allowing senior attorneys to hear cases.

Mr. Champagnie says he knows of several attorneys, including himself, who would volunteer their time to sit on the night court.
