The Transport Authority is warning route taxi operators, to desist from transporting children in the trunks of motor cars, or face prosecution.

The Transport Authority says it has received reports that operators have been placing children in the cargo area of the larger sedans, in a bid to increase their earnings on each trip.

The Authority is condemning the practice as illegal and inhumane.

It has instructed the Operations Division to prosecute violators.

The Authority says it will also be engaging the police to prosecute these taxi operators for cruelty to children under Section 9 of the Child Care and Protection Act.
