Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Mining, Dr. Alwin Hayles, says interest groups are vandalizing government property marking the boundaries of the cockpit country.
Dr. Hayles says these groups continue to express their dissatisfaction with the boundaries tabled in the House of Representatives last year.
The boundaries have been a point of contention in recent months, as environmentalists say they do not properly encompass the entirety of what is known as the cockpit country.
Some claim that mining also continues to take place in contravention of the boundaries.
But, Dr. Hayles says no mining is taking place near the areas defined as Cockpit Country.
He says if a license encroached on the Cockpit Country, priority would be given to the environmental concerns and the license would be amended.
