The Ministry of Technology, has launched an initiative to expose more girls and young women to the world of Information and Communications Technology, ICT.
This as part of ‘Girls in ICT Day’, a worldwide initiative to promote the study and pursuit of careers in the field of technology.
State Minister for Technology, Julian Robinson, says the initiative is aimed at reducing the high gender imbalance in the ICT sector, where only 10-percent of practitioners are female.
Girls from five corporate area schools were selected to participate in today’s workshop, where they were exposed to techniques in designing and writing computer programmes.
Minister Robinson says he wants the students to use the event as a platform to create solutions for problems affecting the country.
