Jamaica has received an additional 55,200 doses of Aztrazeneca vaccines under the global COVAX facility.
This is Jamaica’s third shipment under the facility.
Health Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton announced the arrival of the additional doses last evening.
The Health Ministry says the vaccines will be used to inoculate persons who are due their second dose, along with persons who are 50 years and older, along with members of the JDF and JCF.
Members of the Jamaica Fire Brigade and staff members from the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency, PICA, the Jamaica Customs Agency and the Correctional Services will also benefit from this batch.
The Ministry says some 155,600 Jamaicans, representing 8-percent of the target population, have received their first jab so far.
Of that number, 22,206 Jamaicans have been fully vaccinated.
