National Security Minister, Dr. Horace Chang, says the latest murder figures represent lives saved, as Jamaica records its lowest third-quarter tally in 30 years.
The country recorded 122 murders between July and September.
That’s the lowest total for that period in three decades, according to the Ministry of National Security and Peace.
September closed with 35 murders, the lowest monthly figure so far this year, eclipsing the previous low of 37 recorded in August.
In a statement on Thursday, Dr. Chang, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, says the numbers are further evidence of progress in the fight against serious crime.
Dr. Chang says while the country recognises the progress, the focus remains on sustaining and deepening these gains and ensuring that every Jamaican can feel safer in their community.
September marked the fourth month this year in which 40 or fewer murders were recorded.
The decline builds on 2025, when Jamaica recorded 673 murders, the lowest annual total in more than 30 years.
The Ministry says the gains must be sustained through continued law-enforcement operations, intelligence-led policing, stronger investigations and violence-prevention programmes.
It says it will continue working with the Jamaica Constabulary Force, other security agencies, communities and stakeholders as the country enters the final quarter of the year.
