The Wanderers in Johannesburg will host the 2027 ODI World Cup final, just like it did in 2003.

Wayne Walker tells us more.

Cricket’s Word governing body the ICC released the full schedule on Thursday for the tournament which will be spread over three countries in Africa next year.

In addition to the final, the Wanderers will also stage as the marquee clash between India and Pakistan on October 10.

South Africa’s biggest ground with a capacity of over 30,000, has been preferred over Newlands in Cape Town, an iconic ground because of its mountain backdrop.

Newlands will instead host one of the semi-finals on November 17 and the opening match between India and defending champions Australia on October 7 in what is a rematch of the 2023 final.

Zimbabwe, the third co-hosts, are getting five games in the World Cup group stage and they play all of them at home.

The 12 teams, two of which are yet to be decided – will be divided into two groups of six, with Afghanistan, Australia, India, Pakistan, Zimbabwe and one of the qualifiers make up Group A.

Bangladesh, England, South Africa, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and the other qualifier make up Group B.

West Indies will be looking to secured one the two qualifiers spot when they take part in a 10-team tournament early next year.
