Executive Director of the Jamaica Accountability Meter Portal, JAMP, Jeanette Calder, is endorsing the Carl Stone committee’s recommendation for the implementation for a code of ethics for politicians.
Miss Calder’s endorsement comes as Prime Minister Andrew Holness is set to announce a raft of new accountability measures for parliamentarians.
The new measures are expected in response to the significant public backlash to the announced pay hikes for politicians.
The code of ethics is among 16 recommendations made in the Carl Stone Report of 1990.
More than thirty years later, the majority of those recommendations have yet to be implemented.
Miss Calder says those recommendations can serve as an important starting point.
