The Jamaica Constabulary Force has revealed that a vehicle travelling with no registration plates eventually led to a major gun seizure in St Catherine, yesterday.

Nine firearms and 440 rounds of ammunition were seized during an operation along the Edward Seaga Highway around 8:00 last evening.

Three M16 rifles were among the weapons seized.

The police say three men from Trelawny have been taken into custody.

In a statement on the JCF’s official website, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Crime Portfolio, Fitz Bailey, says the police’s suspicions were aroused by the unregistered vehicle.

Meanwhile over in Mount Salem St James, a police-military team found a Walter Creed 9-millimetre pistol with a magazine containing nine 12-gauge cartridges.

The gun and ammunition were found in bushes along Marl Road, Rose Heights in the parish.

Two men were taken into custody in connection with that seizure.
