Chairman of the Jamaica Environment Trust, JET, Diana McCaulay, says former Government Senator, Matthew Samuda, should be given portfolio responsibility for the environment.

Ms. McCaulay says Mr. Samuda shows a keen interesting in environmental issues.

Ms. McCaulay says the country’s environmental regulation framework needs strengthening.

She believes not enough focus has been placed on the environment and believes the portfolio deserves its own ministry or at least not being lost in a super ministry.

The JET Chairman says the management of the environmental portfolio under the Holness administration so far has been mixed.
