The General Secretary of the Jamaica Labour Party, Dr. Horace Chang, is rejecting a call by Dr. Phillips and the People’s National Party, PNP, for the composition of the Integrity Commission to be reviewed.

Dr. Chang is also rejecting as ridiculous a call by Dr. Phillips for Minister Vaz to be sent on leave.

Stevian Simmonds reports.

Dr. Chang says it cannot be that when the findings or views of the Integrity Commission are not liked by a political party, the party decides to call for changes to its membership.

He says the position taken by the PNP lacks merit.

Dr. Phillips argued today that given that Auditor General, Pamela Munroe Ellis, sits on the Integrity Commission which questioned the credibility and objectiveness of Mr. Harrison’s report – Mrs. Munroe Ellis is conflicted and cannot properly review the UDC deal.

Dr. Chang says Dr. Phillips is being unreasonable in what he describes as disparaging the Auditor General.

Dr. Chang says the deal negotiated by the UDC is in keeping with international best practice.

He notes that the UDC/Rooms on the beach deal is projected to bring in thousands of jobs, rake in millions of US dollars in tax revenues and begin the long-talked about redevelopment of Ocho Rios.

The JLP General Secretary is also rejecting as ridiculous, a call by Dr. Phillips for Minister Vaz to be sent on leave.
