Third Country Nationals (TCNs) now seem to be more than just a talking point of contention and alarm across the nation.  The multitude of “experts”, “know it alls” and thought leaders on social media have all put forward their opinions.  They have also invested much in declaring so called “facts”. Upon examination such facts are found to be mere fiction and fabrication.

There was a time Jamaicans depended largely on journalists to inform and educate. But I cannot with a straight face or even one masked in deception deny that the citizenry has been pretty much left to fend for itself for credibility.  Laughably, those who insist on providing clarity, facts and news free of fairytales are now seen as questionable. Why? There are many jackals and jokers posturing as practitioners of the craft.

They have no idea what constitutes the tenets of the craft, its standards and rules, ethics or morals.  Nowadays, just being seen as popular is enough to make a man say we actually live on Mars, discredit earth as our residence and make thousands argue it as truth and irrefutable facts.  Some litter timelines with declared statements, then litter the language with “allegedly”, as if that eliminates the agenda of spreading questionable information.

This recent turn of events re TCNs is a quite basic example of how easily the fabric of falsehood can spread long before the material of truth is stitched.

In the context of an almost drug induced addiction to technology, cellphones and posting on social media, I would love to ask those who claim to use common sense, logic and basic school reasoning to answer a few questions.

Are you telling me an aircraft carrying TCNs, supposedly the most dangerous people since Adolph Hitler and Idi Amin, landed in Jamaica and not one person at the airport made a video? They were carried into the airport, processed and boarded a vehicle, but not one person….from the tarmac to the parking lot made a video?  By the way, DO NOT be dense and thick enough in brain space to tell me, “maybe nobody knew who they were”.  We take videos of people in hospitals, caskets, fights and accidents without a care in the world for who knows who or any duty of care.

There could be NO FLIGHT into Jamaica that landed with TCNs and everybody in the airport was unaware.  Additionally, once word got out, as it does in a minute in Jamaica, an ocean of people would have their phones out to capture the moment and faces.  Oh wait.  They also boarded a vehicle/s without being detected and ended up in St. Mary?

Are you truly trying to convince me that all your faculties are in check to not only choose this narrative, parrot this story, make it become “fact”, and create hundreds of thinking people becoming sheep to a kite story?   There is not one soul who has declared the flight, flight number, time and date of arrival, where such a flight originated.

We are now comfortable creating the most incredible Netflix stories, but for what purpose and to what end?  Likes and follows?  Popularity?  Credibility?  Money and profit?  What could possibly motivate a reasonable mind to not only create a story, then place it at an actual premises in Jamaica?  Even more interesting?  What would motivate any sensible person to not only believe this male bovine droppings, but also threaten to destroy said premises or create harm to people?

We have to take a serious look at journalism, the tendencies of comfortable jackals roaming among ordinary humans, and the juncture at which jokers have been allowed to be justified as tellers of truth and justice.

It doesn’t take politics or some pastoral pleading or just the use of ten percent of brain cells to look at something and ask yourself, “does this sound actual, practical and factual?”.  You know what, maybe it is my ignorance making me think common sense is still common.

We really need to return to a time when the educated could lead the ignorant out of darkness, instead of now having so many being proud of their daily decision to “dumb down” their brains.  It can’t be that hard to THINK.
