Director of Corporate of Communications at the Jamaica Public Service Company, JPS, Winsome Callum, says the increase in electricity bills was necessary at this time to allow the power company to reinvest in the grid.

In recent days the Office of Utilities Regulation announced it had granted the JPS approval for a 1-point-4 percent increase for residential customers.

Ms. Callum who was speaking with Vernon Derby during At Your Service this morning highlighted the importance of reinvesting in the grid to keep it robust in preventing power outages and meeting the demands of customers.

Meanwhile, Ms. Callum says one of the improvement projects set to get underway soon will result in certain parishes having fewer power outages.

She further explained how the project will benefit customers.
