The nation is one step closer to having improved legislation holding dog owners liable for the violent actions of their pets.
The legislation was passed in the Senate on Friday.
Opposition Senator Dr. Floyd Morris noted the legislation is not anti dog but will ensure the proper care and control of the animals.
Dr. Morris says the legislation is targeted at particularly vicious dogs which seek to harm people.
He was joined by Government Senator Sapphire Longmore.
She says the legislation is not a license to abuse dogs.
