Health Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton, says a review of nursing homes have found a number of them wanting in relation to measures designed to guard against the spread of COVID-19 in the facilities.
The Health Minister’s pronouncement comes after 46 persons tested positive for COVID-19 at the State-run Golden Age Home in Vineyard Town in St. Andrew.
The facility is home to hundreds of senior citizens and other residents with physical abnormalities present from birth.
Dr. Tufton, while speaking on last evening’s edition of Nationwide@5 with Cliff Hughes and Tyrone Reid, said the Health Ministry has visited more than 2-hundred nursing homes and infirmaries.
The Health Minister says unregistered facilities in the sector are making it more difficult for the health authorities to conduct enforcement.
Dr Tufton says human error could have caused the outbreak at the Vineyard town, St Andrew-based facility.
