Executive Director of the National Solid Waste Management Authority, NSWMA, Audley Gordon says a shortage of money is preventing the parish of Westmoreland from having its own transfer station for holding garbage.
His comments come amid complaints from Councillors in Westmoreland that garbage is not being collected in a timely manner.
They say a holding station for garbage would allow the NSWMA to be more efficient in collecting waste in the parish.
However, Mr. Gordon told our Nationwide News that he supports the call for a transfer station in Westmoreland but there’s simply no funds to establish one
He says the NSWMA has always advocated for more funding to carry out its operations.
In the meantime, Mr. Gordon says he is once again reminding the public that the frequent collection of garbage can only be realised if adequate and reliable trucks are available.
