More charges are expected to be brought against a Hanover man who’s been slapped with seven counts of rape.
It’s understood 6 of those charges relate to having sex with a minor under the age of 16 years old.
The other charge is for the rape of a teenager older than 16. The man is being identified as a church leader.
Sources close to the investigation say he’s the leader of a break- away faction of the controversial St. James church sect that has recently been in the media.
The man appeared in the Hanover Parish Court this morning where he was remanded until January 26.
The man was taken into custody last week when a patrol team observed him allegedly beating a child on Barnes Lane, in Mount Pelier, Sandy Bay.
The police say allegations of sexual misconduct emerged during follow-up enquiries.
Those investigations revealed several other allegations of sexual misconduct concerning children in the community.
