Government Senator Marlon Morgan has accused the Opposition PNP of attempting to mislead the public about the Memorandum of Understanding between Jamaica and the United States concerning Third-Country Nationals, TCN.
The US has signed TCN agreements with several countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, along with others in Africa and Europe.
Under the agreement, people seeking asylum in the United States are sent to a third country while they await a determination about their final destination.
Senator Morgan says under the TCN agreement no individual with criminal antecedents will be allowed entry into Jamaica.
Kimone Thompson reports.
While addressing the Senate on Friday, Opposition Senator Lambert Brown described the United States as the “evil empire”.
He suggested that paedophiles and rapists would be brought into Jamaica under the TCN arrangement.
Senator Brown argued that the TCN deal between Washington and Kingston could expose Jamaica to serious security risks.
Senator Morgan has hit back on behalf of the government.
He says the rhetoric from Senator Brown and the PNP is reckless and grossly misleading.
Senator Morgan says Senator Brown’s comments expose the PNP’s intention to pursue a programme of misinformation.
