Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Floyd Green, says there’s been no significant damage so far reported in the agricultural sector following the passing of Tropical Storm Elsa over the weekend.
Yesterday, heavy rainfall caused flooding in sections of Clarendon, Kingston, St Andrew, St Catherine, and St Thomas as Elsa passed near the island.
Minister Green says while the Ministry awaits a full estimate of the damage sustained by farmers, preliminary reports indicate that the loss isn’t significant.
Minister Green says the Rural Agricultural Development Authority, RADA, team has started visiting those affected.
He noted that the Ministry is currently discussing ways to help farmers prepare for natural disasters.
In relation to the fisheries sector, Minister Green says the time span of Tropical Storm Elsa didn’t cause any outstanding losses to the fisherfolk.
