Opposition spokesman on Health, Dr. Morais Guy, says he believes the cost of the rehabilitation works at the Cornwall Regional Hospital in St James could climb to $12-billion.

Dr Guy says he’s dissatisfied with what he’s seen.

He was speaking with members of the media following a tour of the 10-floor facility today.

Rehabilitation works on the hospital began in 2017 to resolve mold and air quality issues at the facility.

The renovation work was scheduled to end late 2020.

However, the pandemic and onerous government procurement guidelines have delayed the completion.

Noting that the expenditure so far is significant, the opposition spokesman stressed that since his last visit in December of 2019 very little progress has been made.

Dr Guy also notes that the cost variation on the repair of the roof alone has far outstripped its initial sum.
