The Opposition People’s National Party, PNP’s giving the government an ultimatum ahead of the first extension of the State of Public Emergency in Clarendon and St Catherine.

It’s understood that the party says it’s Parliamentary Group met last night and decided on a number of things in relation to the enhanced security measure.

Among them, is that an affirmative vote for an SOE extension today will be for no more than 21 days.

The Parliamentary group says during the 21-day period, the lock down time must be adjusted to 9 o’clock.

It says that in many cases, the lock down times are impractical, uneconomic and oppressive to the economic life of the people, businesses and communities.

The group says even simple birthday parties and mourning of the dead at ninth-nights or set ups are not allowed.

The Opposition says during the 21 days, the government must carry out a comprehensive review of the SOEs and present the findings to the House by the next motion seeking an extension.

The Opposition says it will, therefore, only give an affirmative vote if the government agrees to the conditions passed at the Parliamentary Group caucus meeting last night.
