The Opposition People’s National Party, PNP, is once again calling for a stakeholder conference to address the problem of crime.

As of June 17, 608 people were killed across the country.

That’s 24 fewer murders or a decline of almost 4% when compared to the corresponding period last year.

However, this is coming from a 7% decline at the start of June.

Mr Jackson says a high-level gathering needs to be convened in the next few days, because innocent people are being slaughtered daily despite the presence of States of Public Emergency in some sections of the island.

He says stakeholders in peace management, the church, the business sector and community representatives have been waiting for some time for the Prime Minister to initiate this meeting.

Mr. Jackson says an initial agreement to hold such a forum has been reneged on by the government as what he describes as the shameless stonewalling continues.
