Paternity and adoption leave are now in effect for Jamaica’s public sector workers for the first time.
It took effect on January 1.
The newly introduced provisions follows a series of consultation with public sector unions and other stakeholders on the initiative that was announced in 2022.
The Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Dr. Nigel Clarke had also said expansion of maternity leave for women who work in the public sector would take effect in January.
Women will be entitled to 60 paid vacation days.
