Opposition Spokesman on Energy and Mining, Phillip Paulwell is demanding an update on the government’s plans to assist several people he says have been affected by a recent fire at the Jamalco plant in Clarendon.

Seven employees at the Jamalco alumina refinery in Halse Hall in the parish were last week treated for smoke inhalation following a major fire at the plant.

The fire resulted in extensive damage to the powerhouse which produces electricity, compressed air, and steam for the refinery operations.

Mr. Paulwell says almost one thousand people both directly and indirectly associated with the plant are now out of work as a result of the fire.
