Government is moving to plug a $1.3-billion hole in the budget of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company, JUTC.

The shortfall was highlighted in today’s sitting of the Standing Finance Committee, by Transport Spokesman Mikael Phillips speaking to Transport Minister Mike Henry.

Minister Henry says this stems from the need to run the Transport Sector at the true cost rather than a subsidized rate.

Under intense grilling from Mr. Phillips, the Transport Minister says he’ll be working with the Finance Ministry toward closing the gap.
