Greenwich Town has been declared a ZOSO by the Prime Minister following a written recommendation from the Heads of the Security Forces.
The ZOSO act was passed in 2017.
The act is aimed at curbing the nation’s crime through security force occupation of vulnerable communities.
It also aims to preserve human rights during the period of occupation.
Prime Minister Holness noted that for a ZOSO to be declared there must exist “rampant criminality, gang warfare, escalating violence and murder and a threat to the rule of law.
Mount Salem in St. James was declared as the first Zone of Special Operations (ZOSO) in September 2017, followed by Denham Town in October of that year.
Prime Minister Holness says the measure has worked.
