General Secretary of the People’s National Party, Julian Robinson, says the party will have to consult with Portia Simpson Miller, on whether she’ll continue to represent her constituency after stepping down as party President next year.
Mrs. Simpson Miller is the Member of Parliament for the PNP stronghold of South West St. Andrew.
She’s been representing the constituency since 1976. She’s announced that she’ll not seek re-election as President of the PNP next year.
Mr. Robinson says delegates of the PNP’s organisation in South West St. Andrew will have to be consulted on who they’d want to be the party’s new standard-bearer in the constituency if Mrs. Simpson Miller decides to quit politics entirely.
