Commissioner of Police, Major General Antony Anderson, is calling on members of the constabulary and members of the public to show mutual respect for one another.

The Police Commissioner says only through a respectful partnership can the crime problem be addressed.

He was speaking at a function to commemorate police week on Sunday.

His call comes amid recent incidences of heated altercations between members of the constabulary and members of the public.

It also comes as the Police Federation has vowed to defend its members vigorously in the courts if they are forced to use the full extent of their training to defend themselves against abuse from the public.

Commissioner Anderson is also urging members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement members when they are performing their lawful duties.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Anderson says it’s important the JCF build trust and rapport with Jamaica’s communities.
