The Jamaica Public Service Company, JPS, is reporting that more than 84% of its customer base now has electricity.
At the height of Hurricane Beryl’s passing a week ago, only 35% of the company’s customer base had retained power, with some parishes having lost power completely.
In a mid-morning statement Tuesday, the light and power company says large swathes of communities across all parishes will have service restored over the next 24–48 hours.
This includes areas in the worst-hit parishes of Clarendon, Manchester and St. Elizabeth.
In Clarendon, JPS will be in sections of Mineral Heights, Porus Substation to Williamsfield, Lionel Town Hospital, Morgan’s Pass, Colonels Ridge, Brandon Hill, Kellits, St. Johns and Lluidas Vale.
They’ll also be in sections of Four Paths, Victoria, St. Jago Road, Duke Street, Comfort Road, Clarendon Park, Lionel Town, Monymusk, Hayes, Corn Piece and Raymonds.
In Manchester, teams will be working in sections of Alston to Laughton Town, Porus, Williamsfield, Grey Ground, Woodlawn Road, Georges Valley, Upper Mount Nelson and Hatfield.
They’ll also be in section of Greenvale, Manchester Road, Balvenie, Bloomfield Street, Patrick Road, Clarks Town and Brumalia Road.
Over in St. Elizabeth, JPS work crews will be in sections of Watchwell to Predo, Top Hill to Junction, Flagaman to Top Hill, Black River to Whitehouse and surrounding areas.
In the meantime, Minister Vaz says JPS is expected to indicate on Friday whether external assistance will be needed to carry out its restoration works in St. Elizabeth.
Minister Vaz says the government already has workmen from outside of Jamaica on stand-by.
