Today marks two years since the long-awaited Road Traffic Act has been passed, however it’s yet to fully take effect in law.

The amended road traffic law was approved in the Senate on December 7, 2018.

Vice Chairman of the National Road Safety Council, Dr Lucien Jones, told our news centre that delaying the implementation of the new Road Traffic Act, will only continue to hinder road safety in Jamaica.

Dr. Jones says this should be addressed immediately.

Dr. Jones explained that several traffic violations can be corrected if the new Act takes effect.

Although the NRSC Vice Chairman is pushing for the implementation of the new Road Traffic Act, he says it alone won’t reduce road fatalities.
