President of the St Catherine Chamber of Commerce, Dennis Robotham is welcoming the imposition of a state of public emergency, SOE, in the parish but wants to see a long-term solution to crime.
Friday morning, Prime Minister Andrew Holness formally declared an SOE in St. Catherine amid a recent flare-up of violence in which three people were shot and killed and scores more injured in , Spanish Town.
Robotham told our news centre that though the SOE is welcomed, businesses want to see a medium or long-term solution to crime.
He says businesses will be faced with another economic blow amid the current inflation crisis.

The SOE is expected to stand for two weeks before Holness will be required to seek the approval of at least one opposition Senator for its extension to fulfil the two-thirds majority requirement.
