Medical Officer for St James, Dr Francine Phillips-Kelly is calling on residents to play their part in the fight against dengue.

This as St James and other sections of the country continue to grapple with an increase in the number of suspected cases of dengue-related illness.

Dr Phillips-Kelly made the call during her address of the regular monthly meeting of the St James Municipal Corporation last week.

The medical officer noted that the Aedes aegypt mosquito, which spreads dengue fever, Chikungunya, Zika, Mayaro and yellow fever viruses are endemic to Jamaica.

Dr Phillips-Kelly said a number of the affected individuals were children under the age of 13.

She said the virus is presenting with different symptoms than it would normally.
