Prime Minister Andrew Holness says now’s the time to transform the Jamaica Constabulary Force!
He says while there have been some successful transformational initiatives over the years, there continues to be complaints about corruption and inefficiencies.
He says steps are being taken by the government to lead the transformation effort.
Mr. Holness pointed to the Security road map dubbed ‘Plan Secure Jamaica’ as well as the creation of the office of National Security Advisor.
He says the Jamaica Constabulary Service Act will be tabled in parliament next year as part of the government’s commitments under the new IMF agreement.
However, the Prime Minister says transformation will not be immediate.
Prime Minister Holness says successful crime fighting efforts require a police force that can be trusted.
Prime Minister Holness was speaking last evening at Jamaica College’s PTA Inaugural Dinner at the Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston. He also referenced the recent killing of 14-year-old Jamaica College student, Nicholas Francis.
