Despite having some concerns, the Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services, TODSS is welcoming the move by the Government to implement a Demerit Points System to punish errant motorists.
The TODSS President is Egeton Newman.
Transport Minister, Daryl Vaz announced last week that the Demerit Points System under the Road Traffic Act, 2018 and Road Traffic Regulations, 2022, will take effect on October 1, 2026.
Under the system, drivers begin with zero demerit points.
When traffic offences, such as speeding, are committed, points are added and a licence is suspended for an accumulation of 10 or more demerit points.
After the suspension period ends, the points reset to zero.
Newman says his members will meet to craft a plan of action that will address certian concerns before the new system takes effect.
