Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett, says special regulatory attention will be given to the growing sharing economy within the tourism sector.

A sharing economy is the business of individuals proposing to share temporarily with tourists what they own such as accommodation and transportation, or other activities such as meals or excursions.

A popular example of the sharing economy at work is Airbnb.

Minister Bartlett was addressing a media breakfast at the Jamaica Product Exchange, JAPEX, expo at Jewel Grande Resort in Rose Hall, St. James on Tuesday.

Minister Bartlett says talks have begun at the Cabinet level to see what legislative changes may be necessary to better facilitate the expansion of the sharing economy.
