Health and Wellness Minister, Dr Christopher Tufton, says he’s no longer concerned about an exponential increase in the number of COVID-19 cases as a result of the reopening of the country’s borders to non-nationals yesterday.

His comments come as some 523 people arrived on the island yesterday, approximately 400 of which were tourists.

Minister Tufton had previously warned of an exponential spike in COVID-19 cases when the Prime Minister initially announced the borders would re-open to tourists.

Dr. Tufton notes some countries have seen surges in cases as they relax their anti-COVID-19 restrictions.

The Health Minister says the process of screening those who arrived yesterday went smoothly.

According to Dr Tufton, the health ministry’s team had no control over the challenges that arose yesterday.
