There’s uncertainty this afternoon over whether the much touted Goat Island Logistics Hub project, which was to be undertaken by China Harbour Engineering Company, CHEC, has been shelved.

During his much anticipated contribution to the Sectoral Debate in Parliament this afternoon, Minister of Transport and Works, Dr. Omar Davies, made no mention of the project.

This despite speaking about several other projects to be undertaken by CHEC, and against the background of speculation that the Chinese company may be looking to abandon the project.

However, although not referring to the Goat Islands project specifically, Dr. Davies says he’s asked CHEC’s Manager for the Caribbean and Latin America whether the company is winding down its operations in Jamaica.
