Influential businessman and PNP elder, Dr. Vincent Lawrence, is refusing to comment on his future as Chairman of the Electricity Sector Enterprise Team, ESET.
ESET is tasked with overseeing the Government’s implementation of the 381-megawatt project.
Our sources say Dr. Lawrence has indicated to the Holness-led administration that he’s willing to resign as ESET Chairman.
When contacted this afternoon, Dr. Lawrence declined to comment.
In 2014, he was appointed to head ESET after the Phillip Paulwell-led Energy Ministry botched efforts to implement the natural gas project.
Dr. Lawrence’s appointment was criticized by then Opposition Leader, Andrew Holness.
Mr. Holness opposed the appointment on the grounds that only an independent and politically unconnected person should be given the role.
On May 9, 2014, then Opposition Spokesman on Energy, Karl Samuda told a media conference that the JLP did not support the appointment of Dr. Lawrence because of the scathing report from the Office of the Contractor General on his performance in the Sandals Whitehouse hotel debacle.
