The People’s National Party says its President, Portia Simpson-Miller, has asked the party’s integrity commission to investigate the campaign funds scandal gripping the party.
A statement this afternoon issued under the name of PNP Deputy General Secretary, Julian Robinson, says Simpson Miller made the request during a meeting today of the party’s Officer Corps.
According to Mr. Robinson, Mrs. Simpson Miller has asked the Integrity Commission of the Party to commence an investigation into issues raised by party Treasurer Norman Horne in his report to the National Executive Council NEC.
The PNP says the Terms of Reference for the probe will be completed by next week Monday.
The PNP says its Integrity Commission will be asked to provide a preliminary report to the Officer Corps of the Party by the first week of October.
The Integrity Commission was established in 2010 and is chaired by Bishop Wellesley Blair.
The Commission includes actuary Daisy Coke, former PNP general secretary, Burchell Whiteman, Cedric McCulloch and veteran attorney, Fred Hamaty.
According to the PNP statement, the Commission is allowed to use additional expertise as needed to complete its investigation.
Only yesterday, Mrs. Simpson Miller stunned the country when she said she was not aware of Norman Horne’s report which was submitted in April and the scandal which came to public attention eight days ago.
