North West St. Ann MP, Dr. Dayton Campbell, says some Vice Presidents of the PNP who’ve decided to support Dr. Peter Phillips’ bid to hold on to the party presidency have done so because it places them in a position to inherit the leadership of the party sooner.
In a Facebook post today, Campbell declared that Members of the Vice Presidential ranks who are supporting Dr. Phillips are driven by personal ambition.
He says those members are not motivated by a desire for the PNP to return to office.
The North West St. Ann MP made the declaration on social media today.
Dr. Campbell’s assertion was challenged by Councilor for the Papine Division in East St. Andrew, Venesha Phillips.
Miss Phillips commented that Mr. Bunting is only just over a decade younger than the PNP President, who’ll turn 70 in December.
Dr. Campbell responded by saying he’s not conducting a campaign based on ageism.
But he says a win for Peter Bunting may delay the leadership aspiration of some members of the party’s Vice Presidential ranks.
Dr. Campbell says in his view that’s the reason why the Vice Presidents have made what he described as a calculated decision to support Dr. Phillips.
All 4 Vice Presidents, Mikhael Phillips, Dr. Wykeham McNeil, Phillip Paulwell and Damion Crawford have declared their support for Dr. Phillips.
Dr. Campbell is among the MPs who’ve declared support for Mr. Bunting’s candidacy.
