Minister without Portfolio in the National Security Ministry, Senator Matthew Samuda, says 37 members of the correctional services and 24 inmates have so far tested positive for COVID-19.
And, Minister Samuda says a number of test results are still pending.
According to Minister Samuda, the Department of Correctional Services did “extremely well” in efforts to prevent the coronavirus from entering the country’s prisons.
But, he says the coronavirus may have entered the correctional facilities through correctional officers.
Minister Samuda says contact tracing was conducted to limit the spread of the coronavirus among inmates.
