At least five prominent eateries have committed to partner with the government to offer healthy menu options.

Minister of Health and Wellness Dr. Christopher Tufton announced the initiative yesterday during his Sectoral Debate presentation in the House of Representatives.

Dr. Tufton explains that the “Better For You” menu program is a direct response to changing consumer habits and aims to encourage customers to be more thoughtful when making decisions regarding food.

Among the restaurants that have agreed to be part of the program are KFC, Burger King, Juici Patties, Wendy’s, and Popeyes.

Tufton admits that this initiative will not fully address issues of ill health in Jamaica, but he says it’s a start.

The Minister hopes this collaboration will incentivize the production of healthier foods by local manufacturers.

He also indicates the intention to extend the initiative to even more restaurants.
