Energy Minister, Daryl Vaz, says he’s concerned about the timing of the one-point-4 percent increase to electricity rates granted to the Jamaica Public Service by the Office of Utilities Regulation.
However, the Minister says after a review of the law he’s unable to influence the decision.
The Minister was speaking in the House of Representatives this afternoon.
The approval was granted by the OUR earlier this month.
He however reminded Parliamentarians of the current Joint Select Committee review of the Electricity Act.
Minister Vaz says this forum can be used to address regulatory and legislative issues such as this.
