Water Minister Matthew Samuda says the government is looking to purchase an additional 10,000 black water tanks for distribution to vulnerable households and communities affected by drought across the island.
Minister Samuda says the tanks will be purchased from local manufacturers.
Minister Samuda says the initiative is part of efforts to strengthen water storage capacity as the country continues to experience increasingly dry conditions.
In March, the government committed to distributing one hundred thousand black water tanks to vulnerable households over five years, based on the capacity of local manufacturers to supply them.
Minister Samuda says the distribution will not be done through Members of Parliament, in an effort to prevent the programme from becoming politicized.
