The country recorded eight murders last week, between August 22 and August 29.
That’s according to the latest data from the Jamaica Constabulary Force, JCF.
The eight pushes the country’s overall murder tally to 357 between January 1 and August 29.
Still, that’s 104 fewer than the 461 recorded during the corresponding period last year.
It represents an overall decline of 22.6 percent.
Single-digit murders have been recorded in six of the 19 police divisions.
They are the St Thomas, St Andrew North, Kingston Central, Portland, St Mary and Trelawny divisions.
The Portland police division has recorded the fewest homicides so far this year, with four.
By contrast, the St James division continues to lead the murder tally, recording 43 homicides up to August 29.
Meanwhile, the JCF says other major crimes are continuing the downward trend.
Shootings are down 24 percent, rape by nearly 11 percent, robbery 26 percent and break-ins down 12 percent.
Meanwhile, Cabinet Minister, Robert Morgan, says the country has spent a combined $90 billion over the life of the current administration in addressing the nation’s crime problem.
He says this has resulted in an unprecedented and continued reduction in murders led by Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness.
Robert Morgan, Minister with Responsibility for works in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Infrastructure Development.
He was addressing the 48th Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, CPA, opening ceremony on Monday.
