Health  Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton says he would not be opposed to the cruise liner MSC Cruises being fined for breaching the law for not informing health authorities that a person on board was in isolation.

The cruise liner  was denied permission to dock in Ocho Rios St. Ann recently as a precautionary measure to keep the new coronavirus from entering the island.

The operators of the cruise ship have expressed extreme disappointment at the decision made by Jamaican authorities.

The cruise operator says it’s disappointed that in Jamaica and Cayman, its ship was effectively turned away simply based on fears.

The cruise operator says the sick crew member did not travel to or from any territory affected by the Coronavirus or that is subject to any international health restrictions.

But the Health and Wellness Minister is reiterating that the authorities acted responsibly by denying the ship permission to dock.
