Prime Minister, Dr. Andrew Holness says Caribbean democracies must catch up with the rest of the world in combating the threat of misinformation and other damaging rhetoric online.
He issued the warning while addressing the 48th Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, CPA, opening ceremony on Monday.

According to him, lies and falsehoods threaten the integrity of democracies around the world.
The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, CPA, links more than one-hundred-and-80 legislatures across nine regions, and its Caribbean, Americas and Atlantic arm covers 19 of them.
Jamaica is hosting the region’s 48th annual conference at the Moon Palace in Ocho Rios, St. Ann, until Saturday.
It’s being held under the theme ‘Strengthening Parliaments in the Digital Age’.
In urging the CPA to deliberate on the matter, Dr. Holness notes that it’s a problem long since identified and being tackled in other countries.
The Prime Minister has urged the nations under the CPA to work together to face off against the challenges of a modern digital world.
