Long time ‘Love and Hip-Hop’ cast member Erica Mena has been fired from the show after calling co-star, Spice, a monkey.
The producers of Love and Hip-Hop made the announcement in a post on social media on Saturday.
“Working hand-in-hand with our partners, viewers will see the impact of Mena’s comments play out in the final episodes of the season,” said the statement.
“Effective immediately she will not appear in the next season of Love & Hip-Hop: Atlanta.”
Mena, who is Afro-Latina of Puerto Rican and Dominican Republic descent, has faced backlash for calling Spice a monkey and saying the dancehall entertainer should have died after her recent health scare.
Mena and Spice, given name Grace Hamilton, got into an argument over family dynamics on a recent episode of the VH1 programme.
Mena flew into a rage after Spice told her that her son doesn’t love her. Mena flipped a table during the interaction in which she used the racial slur against Spice, a Black woman.
The producers of the popular show gave in to fan backlash following the comment by firing Mena.
However, they are now facing some backlash of their own with fans accusing the show of airing the footage before and only acting to fire Mena after the public backlash.
Mena has not responded to the sacking, but it appears she already had her sights set on moving away from reality TV.
On August 29, Mena respond to an X – formerly Twitter – post stating she had outgrown Love & Hip-Hop.
User KenyaKenyatta wrote “I think she has outgrown reality TV. Baby I think it’s time to bounce.” Mena responded “Indeed”.
Mena has aspirations of being an actress.
