Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton says there’s no case of the coronavirus in Jamaica.

The Minister was speaking a short while ago at a press conference at the Ministry’s Headquarters at the RKA Building in New Kingston.

Rumors circulated on social media this morning that there’s at least one suspected case of the dreaded virus at the University Hospital of the West Indies, UHWI in St. Andrew.

However, Dr. Tufton says this is not so.

“I just want to say categorically that there is no truth to the claim that there’s a case of the Corona Virus at the UHWI,” the Minister said.

The Health Minister says out of an abundance of caution, tests are being carried out on an individual who came from China about two weeks ago and has been experiencing flu-like symptoms.

It’s understood that the individual is a female who visited China two weeks ago and came back to Jamaica via New York.

Dr. Tufton says at this time, that case is not being classified as a suspected case of the Corona virus.
